Niranjan Sarangi is a Senior Economic Affairs Officer in the Shared Economic Prosperity Cluster, UN-ESCWA. He leads the programme on debt and fiscal policy in the Arab region at UN-ESCWA. He is the lead author of the report Rethinking Fiscal Policy for the Arab Region; coordinator of innovative projects on fiscal policy and debt sustainability issues such as “Social Expenditure Monitor”, “Debt Swap for Climate/SDGs Finance” and “Debt Optimization Strategies to Enhance Fiscal Space” at UN-ESCWA. Prior to joining ESCWA, he was an Economist with UNDP Asia-Pacific. Niranjan holds a PhD in Development Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, India.
