Mr. MAKINO Koji has been working at JICA since 1988. He is currently Director General, JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development. His previous position was Director General, Economic Development Department, handling agriculture, rural development, economic and private sectors. He served as Country Director at JICA Ghana Office in 2014-2017, also experienced overseas assignments at JICA Kenya and Tanzania office. He was seconded some years to Export-Import Bank of Japan as economist. His research interests include human security, agricultural economics, poverty reduction and international aid architecture. He was a co-author of "Human Security Today" in 2022, and “For Inclusive and Dynamic Development in Sub-Saharan Africa” in 2011, JICA Ogata Research Institute. He also jointly published “Catalyzing Development”, Brookings Institution Press in 2011 that was one of best sellers on Official Development Assistance, and stimulated international debates on the new aid architecture.
