Amira El-Shal

Assistant Professor of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo

Amira El-Shal is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science of Cairo University. She is also a Senior Policy Manager at The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), where she leads research and policy partnerships for evidence generation, dissemination, and use in the social protection sector. Her current research focuses on social protection and public health interventions, behavior change and fiscal sustainability and stabilizers in the time of health and climate disasters, and gender gaps in economic participation in low- and middle-income countries. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from City, University of London and a M.Sc. in Economics from University College London. Over the past 15 years, she worked as a Senior Consultant at the African Development Bank, an Economic Consultant at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, an Economic Consultant at the Office of the Economic Affairs Advisor to the President of Egypt, and an Economic Expert at Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation.
